Manchester United’s quest for European football looks all but dead and buried at this stage of the campaign.

Still, those battling for a chance to play among the elite in the Champions League next season are awaiting the final verdict on which league will be granted the bonus spot and truthfully, it’s not looking too promising for England’s top-flight.

Sky Sports claim that the Premier League now has a 1.1 per cent chance of having five clubs in the competition in 2024/2025 as we close off on a catastrophic week of action for its representatives in Europe.

United fans will already be well aware of how their rivals fared on Wednesday night, with both Manchester City and Arsenal exiting the CL in the quarter-finals to Real Madrid and Bayern Munich respectively.

Following on from them, Jurgen Klopp’s farewell tour faced another bump in the road after they were knocked out of the Europa League by Atalanta, having failed to overturn their three-goal deficit in Italy last night.

West Ham United added their names to the ever-growing list of clubs to have sustained a defeat at the hands of relentless Bayer Leverkusen, who made it 44 matches unbeaten when they progressed to the EL semis.

As such, the only remaining PL outfit in Europe is Aston Villa. Unai Emery’s side progressed past Lille on penalties in the Conference League, and it seems as though they’ll have numerous of their rivals spurring them on to go the distance, as if they were to win the trophy and all Bundesliga teams exit in the semi-finals of their respective competitions, England will be awarded a fifth CL place.
