The WWE Universe had awaited the day when two of the most iconic stars from the same family, The Rock and Roman Reigns would come face-to-face on WWE television programming. However, things did not turn out the way the company wanted, with their recent confrontation setting an entirely different kind of record.
This week’s edition of SmackDown saw the 2024 Men’s Royal Rumble Cody Rhodes announce that he would not come after Roman Reigns for his title at WrestleMania 40. Just moments later, The Rock returned and Rhodes seemingly paved the way for The Great One to confront his dominant cousin.
What would have been an “OMG moment” turned into a major backlash by the wrestling fans who voiced their displeasure on seeing The Rock steal Cody Rhodes’ spotlight. The American Nightmare had been building momentum for an entire year and his victory at the rumble signaled the culmination of his story was approaching.
However, The Rock’s involvement seemingly derailed those plans. Yet the fans were not going to keep silent with numerous support campaigns for Cody Rhodes all over social media. Not only that, the segment involving The Tribal Chief and The Great One recently surpassed a half million dislikes count in 36 hours.
That record made it the most disliked WWE video of all time, in what was earlier perceived to become one of the biggest attractions for the global juggernaut.
With fans expressing major disappointment and firm support for Cody Rhodes to receive his moment at The Show of Shows, it would be interesting to see how this story unfolds on the road to WrestleMania 40.
