WWE and UFC’s deal was finalized just last year, as the companies were featured in front of The New York Stock Exchange. Things are clearly changing for the company as The Rock has now been appointed to TKO’s Board of Directors.
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s name is known far and wide, as he is absolutely integral to WWE in many ways. He is also the owner of various companies and is known to be well adept in the corporate world.
According to TKO’s official website, it was officially announced that Dwayne Johnson has been appointed to TKO’s Board of Directors, effective immediately.
As part of the agreement, Johnson has been granted full ownership of the trademarked name “The Rock.” TKO emphasizes its commitment to long-term value and shareholder performance through strategic growth initiatives across UFC and WWE.
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson expressed humility at being part of a board with a rich history and family legacy, acknowledging the contributions of his grandfather and father to the wrestling world. He sees the appointment and ownership of “The Rock” name as an unprecedented and inspiring moment in his life.
Johnson is motivated to contribute to the global expansion of TKO, WWE, and UFC businesses while representing athletes and performers who work hard to make their dreams come true.
“My grandfather, High Chief Peter Maivia, and my dad, Rocky ‘Soulman’ Johnson, would’ve never thought this day would come. Which is why I’m very humbled to have a seat at the table that has decades of history and family legacy for me. A table that my family helped to build. Being on the TKO Board of Directors, and taking full ownership of my name, ‘The Rock’, is not only unprecedented, but incredibly inspiring as my crazy life is coming full circle. At my core, I’m a builder who builds for and serves the people, and Ari is building something truly game changing.”
”I’m very motivated to help continue to globally expand our TKO, WWE, and UFC businesses as the worldwide leaders in sports and entertainment — while proudly representing so many phenomenal athletes and performers who show up every day putting in the hard work with their own two hands to make their dreams come true and deliver for our audiences. I’ve been there, I’m still there and this is for them.”
In addition to his board appointment, WWE has entered into agreements with Johnson for services, merchandising, and an intellectual property assignment, granting him ownership of the trademarked name “The Rock.” This name, with historical significance from his father and grandfather’s contributions to WWE, is now under Johnson’s ownership.
The press release also notes the appointment of Brad Keywell to TKO’s Board of Directors, increasing the board from 11 to 13 members. This is certainly big news and we’ll have to wait and see how The Rock’s inclusion into TKO will affect the company as a whole.
