Cody Rhodes finally finished his story at WrestleMania 40, but a new story has only just begun.

During the opening to tonight’s episode of WWE RAW, Triple H introduced Rhodes to the crowd as the man who would lead WWE in its new era, and even gifted Rhodes a video package showcasing his rise to Undisputed WWE Champion. Cody then took to the mic, and proceeded to reflect on his journey to the company, and how he finally accomplished his longtime dream of becoming a world champion in WWE.

Cody then brought up Roman Reigns and gave him credit, calling him perhaps the most important superstar of this generation. He thanked Reigns and says he was destined to defeat him, before bringing up footage of his daughter as he talks about his “why.” He also promised to be a fighting champion, and knows he’s now at the head of the line for competitors.

However, the celebration was short-lived, as Rhodes was quickly interrupted by none other than The Rock. “The Final Boss” came down to the ring to a chorus of boos, and after calling the crowd the largest gathering of trailer park trash, said he was actually there to give Cody his flowers.

The Rock congratulated Cody on his accomplishment, before looking back on beating Rhodes throughout the weekend. He once again brought up Cody’s parents, and called his father, Dusty Rhodes, his childhood hero. The Rock then made a strange request, asking Cody if he could the WWE Universal Championship, to which Cody allowed him to if he could hold The Rock’s special “People’s Championship” belt.

The pair swept belts for a moment, with The Rock putting the WWE Universal Championship around his shoulder. After trading back belts, The Rock said that he had to “go away for a little while,” but he wished he didn’t He said that he and Cody made wrestling cool again, and that when he does come back, he’ll be coming back for Cody, whether or not Rhodes still has the championship.

Rhodes said that he’s looking forward to it before The Rock reminded him that while he may have beaten Roman at WrestleMania, it was The Rock who pinned him on Saturday night. The Rock went on to say that while Cody’s story with Roman may be over, their story has only just begun. Cody reminded The Rock that since he is Cody’s boss, technically he is The Rock’s champion.

“The Final Boss” agreed with Cody, and then said he had a gift for him. He reached into his pocket and pulled out an unknown item, placing it in Cody’s hand and telling him that he’d know it without looking. He then told Rhodes never to break his heart again, and ended his time in the ring with a message of “if you smell what The Final Boss is cooking.”
