IMG Credit: WWEThey had a reason for that. Wrestling is a rather unique sport in that everything is indeed pre-determined, but there is an aspect to it that keeps it similar to everything else. The one thing is that wins and losses still matter, as fans are going to keep notice if someone loses all the time. A win can be a game changer for a wrestler’s status and that is what WWE seems to have been thinking.

Over the weekend, CM Punk defeated Drew McIntyre in a strap match at Bash In Berlin, marking his first televised win in WWE in over ten years. McIntyre then attacked Punk two nights later on Monday Night Raw, suggesting that their feud will continue. According to Wrestling Observer Radio, WWE felt that Punk needed a “massive” win and believed that McIntyre can absorb the loss by moving on to a rubber match between them. The third match between the two has not been announced.

Opinion: This is something that makes sense for WWE and the question now is how we get to the next match between then. Punk did indeed need a win on the big stage, or a win whatsoever, because you can only live off past glory for so long. Beating McIntyre in a strap match made Punk feel that much bigger and now we get to see where he can go, both in the rest of the McIntyre feud and beyond.
