As Barcelona continue to rebuild under new manager Hansi Flick, the club have done exceedingly well so far. The new manager has been able to get the best out of almost each and every individual.

However, there is still a need for reinforcements if Barcelona are to compete at the highest level. While signings in January might not be possible on account of the club’s economic turmoil, Barça are likely to look for free agents in the summer of 2025.

To that end, we will take a look at three players Barcelona can approach for a free transfer next summer.

Jonathan Tah

The German centre-back has long been on Barcelona’s radar, with the club showing serious interest this past summer.

However, financial restrictions prevented them from securing the Bayer Leverkusen defender.

Tah, whose contract expires at the end of the season, remains a key target for Barcelona as they look to bolster their defence.

With uncertainty brewing over Ronald Araujo and Andreas Christensen’s future at the club, Jonathan Tah could prove to be an ideal long-term defensive solution for the Catalans.

But the race for his signature has heated up, with Real Madrid and several Premier League clubs also expressing interest in the towering defender. Securing Tah’s services will require Barcelona to act swiftly and decisively.

Jonathan David

A consistent performer in Ligue 1, Jonathan David has been making waves at Lille with his versatility and goal-scoring prowess.

Since joining Lille in 2020, David has racked up an impressive 92 goals and 20 assists in just 196 competitive matches. Even in the new season, the forward has netted eight goals in 13 matches.

Capable of playing in multiple attacking roles, the Canadian international offers Barcelona a much-needed long-term solution for their forward line.

David’s ability to operate across various positions makes him a valuable asset, especially as the Catalan outfit look to build for the future beyond Robert Lewandowski.

From a tactician standpoint, David will be able to operate as a number nine for Barcelona, with Dani Olmo, Lamine Yamal and Raphinha providing support. But if needed, he can also operate out wide, thereby giving Flick more flexibility in the final third.

David’s contract at Lille expires at the end of the season – making him an ideal target for Barcelona next summer.

Joshua Kimmich

Arguably the most coveted of the three, Joshua Kimmich has been a long-time target for Barcelona.

The German midfielder was considered the ideal replacement for Sergio Busquets, but a deal with Bayern Munich couldn’t be reached this past summer.

Next summer, Kimmich may be available on a free transfer, offering Barcelona a golden opportunity to strengthen their midfield with one of Europe’s finest players.

Kimmich’s leadership, tactical intelligence, and versatility would make him an essential part of Barcelona’s core.

The German international, after all, has been one of the most consistent players in Europe, with almost 400 competitive appearances for Bayern.

However, securing the services of Kimmich could be tricky due to immense competition from other clubs. Not to mention, the German has hinted he may be willing to extend his partnership with Bayern as well, following a good start to the new season.
