This is heartbreaking!
Tony Hawk and Kurt Cobain aren’t just linked by being ’90s icons and paragons of cool. They’re also both grandfathers to a shared child!
If you hadn’t heard, Frances Bean Cobain fell for Riley Hawk, and in an amazing, pop culture worlds-collide moment, they got married in October 2023. Less than a year later, they welcomed their first child together, a boy named Ronin Walker Cobain Hawk.
His existence has been such a joyous spark for fans of both families, something sorely needed in an increasingly dark and terrifying world. The only dark lining on that silver cloud, of course… Kurt never got to be here for any of it.

That’s just what Tony was mourning on Sunday. Getting wistful, he shared a photo on his Instagram Stories of a ticket stub to a 1991 Nirvana concert he went to after a Shut Up And Skate event when he was just 23 years old. He wrote:
“Went straight from S.U.A.S. event at Houston Skatepark to this concert in 1991. It was as transformative as live music can possibly be; we all experienced something rare and powerful that night. The world would never be the same.”
Jumping (with a 900 degree spin) back to the present, the proud grandpa lamented:
“I wish Kurt were here so he could see the incredible woman his daughter has become, meet her devoted, caring husband, and hold our wondrous grandchild.”
“Our” grandchild. Awwww… That’s so sad and sweet! See the pic captured by a fan (below)!
