The Netherlands face Scotland in an international friendly match on Friday night, which means Scott McTominay will be coming up against Man City defender Nathan Ake.

Despite being a hero for Scotland, McTominay has had difficulty getting game time with United. However, under pressure, Erik ten Hag often turned to McTominay for help.

McTominay has found a new role in the team and has played a significant role in keeping United’s campaign hopes alive. He had a huge impact on United’s recent 4-3 win over Liverpool in the FA Cup.

Netherlands and Man City defender Nathan Ake is likely to start in the heart of Ronald Koeman’s defence tonight, and he will be hoping to prevent McTominay from adding to his tally in a Scotland shirt.

Speaking to reporters ahead of the match, Ake praised a number of Scotland players including McTominay for their form this season. The City star claims to be ‘impressed’ by McTominay.

“We’ll be up against a very strong team,” Ake said, as quoted by the Scottish Sun. “With good Premier League players at its heart.

“John McGinn (of Aston Villa) and Scott McTominay, in particular, are on top form. They have really impressed me. And I watch Andy Robertson closely because he plays left-back (for Liverpool) and I often do, too, although we are different players.

“You can see that as a team Scotland are improving every year. It’s good to watch. And they’re going to give us a really tough game.”

Scotland Player of the Year

McTominay was voted Scotland’s Player of the Year last week.

The United midfielder will be aiming to continue his goalscoring form at the European Championships.

Scotland go to Euro 2024 as one of the tournament’s underdogs.
