Tubi has greenlit four projects via Stubios, a fan-fueled studio for aspiring filmmakers.
Fox Corporation’s ad-supported streaming service also partnered with Issa Rae’s ColorCreative to mentor up-and-coming creators and help them with their projects.
Among the projects greenlit is a movie by TikTok star Kelon Campbell, who will bring her viral character Terri Joe to a feature film. The dramedy will have Terri Joe leaving her small town to see the world and discover if it’s a big, bad place of sin that her parents and pastor always preached about.
A docuseries featuring Lady London will bring fans along her life journey and her debut album’s creation.
Mo’ Waffles is an original half-hour scripted comedy about a new diner on Atlanta’s crowded restaurant scene. The series will star Grant Gibbs and Ashley Gill, of the TikTok comedy duo A Twink and a Redhead and Robin Jordan, an actress and content creator known for her comedic sketches about restaurant life.
The fourth project is Jokes On Us: New Voices in Comedy, a special airing on December 5th that will feature new 15-minute sets from stand-up comics Cris Sosa, Daniela Mora, and Grant Moore.
“It has been so fulfilling to mentor these Stubio runners,” said Issa Rae, co-founder of ColorCreative. “I love being involved in the development process. Resources matter, and between myself, Tubi, and the team at ColorCreative, we’re thrilled to support these talented creators and, hopefully, fast-track their careers.”
In addition, 14 applicants have been selected to join the program and earn a greenlight from fans on Stubios. The project that receives 15,000 engagements first will receive a greenlight. If no one reaches that milestone within 3 weeks, the finalist with the top spot on the Stubios platform’s leaderboard will earn the green light.
