Two Chelsea players deactivate social media accounts after abuse following Liverpool hammering

Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez deactivated their social media accounts following the crushing defeat to Liverpool.

The Chelsea duo were part of the Chelsea side that fell to a 4-1 defeat to the Reds midweek, in a one-sided affair that saw Jurgen Klopp's side record an almighty 28 shots against the Blues.

While few of Chelsea's players managed to cover themselves in glory, it was midfield duo Caicedo and Fernandez who copped the most stick.

The pair were massively overrun in the middle of the park and, after joining for £115million and £105million respectively, both stars have a pretty sizeable target on their backs.

While it's unclear what the reason is for Caicedo and Fernandez deleting their accounts on X, it's been suggested that a torrent of social media abuse could be the reason.

Caicedo also had the misfortune of being named as Ally McCoist's 'flop of the season' so far, beating Manchester United's struggling goalkeeper Andre Onana to the title.

Speaking to talkSPORT, the Rangers legend said: "The poor man. I’ve got to say, I've seen him [Caicedo] a couple of times, particularly at Old Trafford [a 2-1 defeat to Manchester United]...

"Him and Enzo Fernandez – both of them, to be honest with you – a quarter of a billion pounds... Caicedo would certainly get my vote before Onana.

"Onana has been nothing like the signing they thought he would be, but I'm not giving him flop of the season, I think that's harsh.

"I'm settling on Caicedo."

While the pair will have the chance to put things right against Liverpool later this month in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley, there's still work to do in the Premier League.

Chelsea currently sit in tenth position, way below the European spots Mauricio Pochettino will be looking to land in before the end of the campaign.

They'll be hoping to push themselves up the table quickly, starting against Wolves on Sunday.
