The United Nations International Children’s Education Fund, has lamented the high rate of death during anti-natal in Bauchi State.
The UNICEF Chief of Field Office Bauchi, Nuzat Rafique, who attributed the development to a lack of access to health facilities made condemned the avoidable deaths when the Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed was named the Grand Patron of the Fathers for Good Health Group, an initiative spearheaded by UNICEF to enhance immunisation and improve health outcomes for children and women.
She noted that “With the help of the Fathers for Good Health, over three thousand children have been vaccinated against preventable diseases that could have claimed their lives.
“The state government should intensify efforts to skill up the initiative to all the 20 local government areas of the state.”
She commended the efforts and sacrifices of Bala for championing the vaccination campaign in Misau and Ningi local government areas.
On his part, Bala appreciated UNICEF for its robust support to the state government, especially in the health sector.
He assured the team of continuing the partnership with the UNICEF.
Bala said, “Bauchi State has benefited immensely in its partnership with UNICEF in areas of health and education.
“Our goal is to achieve 100% immunisation coverage, ensuring that no child or woman is left behind.”
He pledged to sustain mutual understanding with UNICEF and other partners in enhancing critical sectors in the state.
The governor also commended UNICEF for initiating the Fathers for Good Health Group to champion the zero-dose vaccination campaign in the two local government areas benefiting from the initiative.
Bala pledged to work in close collaboration with UNICEF to gear up the initiative to cover all 13 local government areas that have zero dose vaccination records as well as the whole local government areas of the state.
