Barcelona’s 2-4 defeat at the hands of Girona was hard to swallow and the frustration within the first team was quite evident on the field.
The weekend’s outing was certainly a match, which Barcelona should have won, but ended in a disastrous outcome for Xavi’s men, having relinquished the lead not once but twice.
As such, one particular instance that came to light involves a certain Lamine Yamal, who was replaced in the 84th minute to make way for Joao Felix.
Interestingly enough, Movistar+ cameras captured the exact moment when the change happened.
As seen in the footage, the La Masia player was not happy with the decision made by the manager.
What did Yamal do?
On the afternoon in Montilivi, ‘The Day After’ program on Movistar+ captured a revealing moment featuring Yamal’s reaction when he was substituted by Xavi in the 84th minute.
In the footage, the young player from La Masia was handed a towel by a team staff member, only for him to toss it to the ground in frustration moments later.
This display of anger reflects the sense of helplessness felt by the players.

— Fútbol en Movistar Plus+ (@MovistarFutbol) May 5, 2024It is unclear whether Yamal’s reaction was due to being taken off the pitch or his dissatisfaction with how the match was unfolding, especially given the team’s defensive struggles that led to them losing their lead.
Yamal, however, has been one of the consistent performers this season, holding onto his unique style of play despite the challenges faced by the team.
What next for Barcelona now?
The atmosphere was heavy with disappointment and frustration among the squad after their loss.
Despite taking a 1-2 lead early in the game and displaying strong control in the first hour, the team’s performance crumbled.
This defeat could significantly impact the race for second place, as with just four games remaining, Barça now trail by two points and must rely on a slip-up from Girona.
Additionally, they need to regain the consistency and dependability that had been emerging over the past few weeks, giving hope for a potential comeback.
