England secured their place in the Euro 2024 final after a 2-1 win over Ronald Koeman’s Netherlands on Wednesday night.
The Three Lions came from behind and a late winner from Ollie Watkins resulted in heartbreak for the Dutch.
Gareth Southgate has been dealt a lot of criticism throughout the tournament due to England’s performances, but they played well against a pretty flat Netherlands side last night. Kobbie Mainoo made history and was one of the best players on the pitch.
However, Watkins’ winner in the 90th minute gave the game a dramatic ending as the England fans went berserk. Southgate decided to bring Watkins on to replace Harry Kane, who scored from the penalty spot to make it 1-1 in the first-half.
After seeing Watkins come off the bench and score England’s winner, Manchester United legend Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had a cheeky reaction which left his former team-mate, Rio Ferdinand, in hysterics.
Ferdinand was celebrating England’s win so he made sure there was a camera nearby… Then the former United and England defender spotted Solskjaer.
That was before Solskjaer referenced the importance of substitutes.
When asked to expand on England’s 2-1 win over the Netherlands, Solskjaer said: “Put a sub on and he’ll get you the winner. That’s how it’s done!”
Ferdinand laughed in response, saying: “Made a career out of that, this guy!”
