Beaten by Rodri in the race for the 2024 Ballon d’Or, Vinicius Junior is targeted by supporters of Real Madrid’s opponents. A parody song is dedicated to him.
It may have been forty-one votes short, but it was indeed Rodri who lifted the 2024 Ballon d’Or trophy. Annoyed by this failure, Vinicius Junior did not not even made the trip to Paris to attend the ceremony which took place at the end of October. Since this failure, the one that many gave as the big favorite has the right to a proper reprimand from the supporters of Real Madrid’s opponents.
In La Liga, a parody song targeting the Brazilian even appeared. As reported on Tuesday Mundo Deportivoa revisit of the tube “Guantanamera” written in 1928 and repeated numerous times over the decades, is sung in Spanish stadiums. And the chorus was slightly modified to make fun of the Madrid player. “Balón de playa, Vinicius Balón de playa” (“Beach ball, Vinicius Beach ball”, in French). A clear way to make fun of his failure at the Ballon d’Or.
In Spain and elsewhere
It was the Real Betis supporters who started the chorus first. And as the media indicated, the music hit the mark and was widely covered. “massive”. Thus, FC Barcelona aficionados sang it near Montjuïc, with “with a smile on your face”. Ditto for Atlético de Madrid with a Metropolitano stadium which chanted the parody song. Finally, the supporters of Las Palmas also had a blast.
And this refrain has gone far beyond Spanish borders since it was also heard during the qualifying match for the 2026 World Cup which took place on November 14 between Venezuela and Brazil (1-1). A meeting during which Vinicius Junior missed a penalty. In the meantime, the Real winger will have to get used to this music which should follow him for a long time.
