Retirement is a tricky concept in wrestling, as while a wrestler might step away from the ring, there is always the chance that they will come back for one last match. That can be a rather special moment as you might see a match that could be quite interesting due to a generational gap. It turns out that we almost had one of them, to the point where plans were being made.

WWE Hall Of Famer Mick Foley appeared at the Nickel City Comic-Con and was asked about having one final match. While Foley said he would want to have a cinematic match between his Three Faces Of Foley personae, the other person he would pick would be AEW’s Maxwell Jacob Friedman. Foley revealed that the two had met together, with Friedman pitching a six week program between the two, which would have worked around Foley’s weaknesses. Earlier this year, Foley had mentioned wanting to wrestle one last match for his sixtieth birthday next year, but eventually changed his mind and decided to remain retired.

Opinion: This is the kind of thing that leaves you wondering what could have been, as Foley and Friedman could have had a heck of a match against each other if given the chance. Friedman might be the best talker going today and Foley is one of the best in history. It could have made for a fascinating situation, but at the end of the day, it might be better to keep Foley out of the ring for his own sake. Everyone has to retire at some point and it seems his time has come.
