The 2024/25 campaign will be a hugely important one for West Ham United.

Julen Lopetegui has it all to do to win over the Hammers faithful, even if it appeared that money of them had had their fill of the David Moyes way of playing football.

A transition back to a more attacking and less pragmatic style of play will almost certainly ensure more bums on seats at the London Stadium, and if the club can pick up points as they go, so much the better.

In order to do just that, they need someone that can regularly put the ball in the back of the net.

West Ham want Tammy Abraham from Roma

Moyes was lucky that he had the likes of Jarrod Bowen and Mo Kudus to take up some of the goalscoring slack last season, because his front two of Michail Antonio and Danny Ings were, frankly, awful.

According to WhoScored, they pair managed just eight goals between them in all competitions in 2023/24, seven of them from Antonio.

West Ham are looking at Tammy Abraham

To that end, news that Roma’s Tammy Abraham is of interest to the club isn’t without foundation.

The 11-cap England international could be made available for just £20m according to sources in Italy, reported by The Telegraph (subscription required).

In this day and age that’s a real bargain, but he’s surely being priced as such because of being out of the game injured for the last 10 months.

As a result, he therefore has a lot to prove, but if he can at least regain his fitness and sharpness, then he has a chance of getting back on the goalscoring trail.

When fit, as WhoScored note, he still knows where the goal is, and it’s debatable whether he’ll have lost that knack once he gets back on the pitch again.

One thing the Hammers will have to bear in mind is that they’re not the only ones circling for the 26-year-old’s signature, as Tottenham and Aston Villa are also credited with an interest.
