Over the past few days, it has emerged that Barcelona are interested in signing Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips on loan in the ongoing January transfer window.

The 28-year-old has been out of favour at the Etihad Stadium and is looking for a way out in order to boost his chances of playing in the Euros in the summer.

And, Barcelona have shown an interest in acquiring his services, with sporting director Deco understood to be an admirer of the England international.

It was even reported that Phillips would favour a move to Barcelona and would be prepared to wait until next week being aware of the club’s financial situation, but not delay things a lot.

However, as per Sky Sports, via Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona may end up missing out on the signing of Phillips as West Ham United are already in talks with Manchester City to sign the midfielder.

The Hammers are believed to be ahead of the rest of the suitors for Phillips, which includes the likes of Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, Newcastle United, and Juventus.

As iterated earlier, Phillips would be open to joining Barça, but the club’s hands are currently tied due to Financial Fair Play restrictions and can only make a move if they receive some form of income in the days to come.

West Ham, though, are already pushing hard to sign Phillips, and may well end up succeeding in tying down a deal for the Manchester City outcast.

In that case, the Blaugrana would have to look at other alternatives to strengthen their midfield department.
