Whoopi Goldberg Defends Carrie Underwood for Performing at Trump Inauguration

Carrie Underwood has a surprising ally in Whoopi Goldberg.

On Monday (January 13), it was announced that the 41-year-old country music singer will be performing at Donald Trump‘s inauguration next week.

After Carrie faced a lot of backlash for accepting the invitation to perform at the inauguration, Whoopi, 69, shared some comments in her support.

Keep reading to find out more…Whoopi and her The View co-hosts discussed the situation during the Tuesday (January 14) episode and while Whoopi acknowledged that she doesn’t personally align with Trump‘s policies, she believes that Carrie has every right to perform wherever she sees fit.

“People do what they do for whatever reasons,” Whoopi said. “I stand behind her.”

While co-hosts Joy Behar and Sunny Hostin disagreed, Whoopi continued to voice her support for Carrie.

“If I believe I have the right to make up my mind to go perform some place, I believe they have the same right,” Whoopi explained. “I have to support.”

“It doesn’t mean I’m particularly interested in watching [the inauguration] — I won’t be watching,” she added. “But that’s me.”

Carrie explained why she accepted Trump‘s invitation to perform at his inauguration.
