The Merseyside outfit stretched their gap at the top of the table following their 4-1 win over away at Brentford last time out.

Liverpool are now two points clear of Arsenal in second and a further two ahead of Manchester City, although the defending champions have a game in hand.

But Liverpool's mounting injuries worsened in west London, with both Diogo Jota and Curtis Jones leaving the stadium on crutches.

Why are Liverpool playing on Wednesday?

Liverpool's participation in the Carabao Cup final this weekend has meant they have had to cram in their league fixtures.

The Reds were due to host Luton Town on Saturday, February 24, but will instead face Chelsea in a repeat of the 2022 Carabao Cup final at Wembley on Sunday.

That has seen their clash with the Hatters moved forward a few days into a double Gameweek 25 after being rearranged for Wednesday.

This clash is not being shown live on TV due to the original fixture being set to take place during the Saturday 3pm blackout.

Top-flight rules dictate that if a game not picked for television coverage is postponed, then the rearranged match is not able to be shown on TV – even if it has been rescheduled to a more agreeable time.
