The news about Chidimma Adetshina bouncing back by accepting to participate in Silverbird Group’s Miss Universe Nigeria sure made Nigerians happy.
It was one of the hot topics trending on social media during the week.
News Direct caught up with the National Director and President of Silverbird Group, Guy Murray-Bruce to give reasons for the noble gesture of inviting Chidimma Adetshina who withdrew from Miss South Africa Beauty pageant to take part in Miss Universe Nigeria which will be holding soon.
In his words, Murray-Bruce said, “The fact that Chidimma Adetshina is a Nigerian makes her qualified to be part of the delegates of the beauty contest. Also the fact that she was victimised just because of her roots despite being born in South Africa. We cannot throw away anyone from Nigeria. We are not those kind of people. Inviting her to be part of us is all about unity. Wherever a Nigerian is, we are always welcome home.”
Murray-Bruce also stated that though Miss Universe Nigeria auditions were already done before speaking to Miss Adetshina, the beauty pageant team considered the fact that she has done auditions with the Miss South Africa pageant. “We also had a few auditions with her and we are excited to welcome her home,” he said.
Speaking further on the challenges that many Beauty pageant competitions are facing in Nigeria and how ready the Miss Universe Nigeria team is to cross those hurdles, Murray-Bruce stated, “There has always been challenges from day one we started Beauty Contest in Nigeria. There are hard economic times presently and many companies are folding up. Yes things are not great in the country. We have devalued currency. Sponsorship level is on all time low but we will have to persevere. We have to weather the storm. For everytime there is a storm, there is a calm and I am sure we will have to calm with every hard work we put in, ” he said.
