Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has warned that Rivers State is teetering on the brink of chaos due to Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s alleged disregard for court judgments.

During an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Wike emphasised the imperative of upholding the rule of law, citing his own experience as a former governor.

“Disregarding court rulings is a recipe for disaster,” Wike cautioned.

“It invites anarchy, violence, and undermines the very fabric of our democracy,” he added.

Wike specifically took issue with Fubara’s reported statement on national television, vowing to defy a court judgment.

He also faulted the governor’s stance on police involvement in the local government election, linking it to the recent outbreak of violence in the state.

“Governor Fubara’s actions are eroding trust in the institutions that safeguard our democracy,” Wike asserted.

“As a former governor, I know the importance of respecting the rule of law. It’s time for Fubara to take responsibility and uphold the constitution,” he said.

Wike’s warning comes amidst growing concerns about the escalating tensions in Rivers State.
