William Gallas believes struggling Chelsea winger Mykhailo Mudryk would still be a ‘good fit’ for Arsenal and could help the Gunners win the Premier League title next season.
The Ukraine international looked set to move to Arsenal last year before their London rivals Chelsea hijacked the deal and brought him to Stamford Bridge instead.
Much was expected of Mudryk but he has so far flattered to deceive for the Blues, scoring just four goals in 37 Premier League appearances.
Mudryk has still been performing well for Ukraine – recently helping the side qualify for this summer’s European Championships in Germany – but he is yet to win over Mauricio Pochettino or the majority of Chelsea fans.
Despite his struggles in west London, Gallas reckons Mudryk could thrive at Arsenal and contribute to a Premier League title win next season.
The Gunners are currently in a three-way tussle with Liverpool and Manchester City for the English title but Gallas believes Mikel Arteta will have to wait until next year to get his hands on the trophy.
‘I know that Emmanuel Petit spoke about Mykhailo Mudryk potentially joining Arsenal, as Mikel Arteta likes him,’ Gallas told Gambling Zone.
‘He would be a good fit for Arsenal, with his speed and quality – that’s why Arteta likes him and wanted him in the first place.
‘Before he signed for Chelsea, Arsenal nearly signed him but he changed his mind and you cannot forget that.
‘I’ve said before that Arsenal will win the title next year, not this year, and if they sign Mudryk that could help them.’
Arsenal kept their Premier League title challenge on track with a routine 2-0 win over Luton Town on Wednesday. The Gunners return to action this weekend against Brighton.
Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea, meanwhile, play host to Manchester United on Thursday as they look to get some much-needed momentum and end a difficult season on a high.
