Swerve Strickland has been making a strong impact in AEW, standing out with his impressive wrestling skills and solid presence. He recently signed a new contract with AEW, and WWE sees this as a negative move for the wrestling industry.
During the Zero Hour pre-show at AEW All In, it was revealed that Swerve Strickland had signed contract extension with AEW. The announcement was made in a segment where Strickland, alongside Prince Nana and Tony Khan, was seen signing the new deal.
It was then reported that Swerve Strickland’s new multi-year contract with AEW will keep him with the company until at least 2028, though the exact duration is not publicly known. This deal is seen as one of the most significant in AEW’s history.
According to Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Swerve Strickland’s new AEW deal is considered one of the biggest contracts in pro wrestling, placing him in the same pay range as top stars like Kazuchika Okada and Mercedes Moné.
WWE also believes that Swerve’s high-paying AEW contract is detrimental to the business because it far exceeds what WWE would consider the market value for a wrestler like him.
”Swerve Strickland’s new AEW deal is believed to be among the biggest deals in pro wrestling, and said to be in the same pay range as Kazuchika Okada & Mercedes Moné. WWE feel that Swerve’s new high-paying AEW contract is bad for the business as it is “so far over what WWE would perceive the market value” to be.”
Bryan Danielson ended up defeating Swerve Strickland for the AEW World Championship in the main event of the AEW All In pay-per-view and Swerve is now set to face Adam Page at All Out, so he is more focused on that since Swerve will be sticking with AEW for several years now, regardless of what WWE thinks.
