WWE Still Following Longstanding Vince McMahon Rule After His Departure

Vince McMahon, the former Chairman and CEO of WWE, is known for being one of the most influential—and controversial—figures in the history of professional wrestling. While he created countless memorable moments for WWE fans, McMahon also imposed a strict set of rules that continue to influence the company, even after his departure.

Following allegations of sexual trafficking and misconduct brought against McMahon by Janel Grant, WWE and TKO Holdings saw McMahon formally step down from his roles. The lawsuit accuses McMahon of distributing explicit content without consent, implicating other WWE executives and stars. In light of these serious accusations, McMahon no longer has any involvement in WWE, and his return to the company seems unlikely.

Despite his exit, McMahon’s influence remains. As Triple H ushered in a new era, many of McMahon’s stringent rules were scrapped. However, Dave Meltzer recently revealed on Wrestling Observer Radio that one of McMahon’s most notable rules—banning the use of the word “belt”—is still being enforced, even with McMahon gone.

“Even with Vince McMahon being gone, they can’t say belt. They brought out new belts, and no one can say the word belt,” Meltzer explained, indicating that some of McMahon’s edicts still remain deeply ingrained in WWE’s operations.

While McMahon faces the legal consequences of his actions, his legacy continues to shape WWE’s corporate culture. Whether or not this influence will fade remains to be seen, but for now, certain McMahon-era rules persist despite the company’s leadership shift.
