Barcelona boss Xavi could not hide his inner Michael Scott as he blasted VAR straight at the camera on Saturday night.

With Barcelona falling further behind Real Madrid and Girona in the battle for LaLiga, anything less than a win against Villarreal could be fatal.

But the Blaugrana crumbled to a late defeat at the Nou Camp on Saturday night in a result that could have serious implications for Xavi.

And the Spaniard lost his cool at one moment, fuming at cameras after a contentious VAR call.

Robert Lewandowski's shot hit the elbow of a Villarreal defender with the referee pointing to the spot.

However, VAR urged the referee to have another look, which saw him overturn his original decision.

With the scores locked at 3-3, Xavi went from glee to madness in a matter of seconds - even turning to a nearby camera like something out of The Office.

"Una verguenza!" he screamed, meaning: "An embarrassment."

And if he was furious then, who knows how he reacted when there was further drama to come.

With the VAR check adding on a considerable amount of injury-time, Villarreal went on to take the lead through former Crystal Palace striker Alexander Sorloth.

Sorloth made just 16 appearances for Palace in the Premier League, failing to hit the net once.

But it was his strike that sent the travelling Villarreal fans into a frenzy - though there was more to come.

Barcelona fumed as the away side celebrated only for the Yellow Submarine to tank their opponents further with another late strike.

This time, it came from veteran striker Jose Luis Morales, who made it 5-3 to Villarreal in a crushing defeat for Los Cules.

And with the club falling further behind in the battle for LaLiga, it could be curtains for Xavi.

The Barca legend was already fighting for his job after several poor results in recent weeks.

They are now 10 points off top-placed Real Madrid, who earlier on Saturday benefitted from a controversial VAR call.
