Earlier today, Barcelona announced that Xavi Hernandez will vacate the managerial position following this weekend’s La Liga clash against Sevilla.
The 44-year-old’s position had become untenable over the past week or so after Joan Laporta was angered by the manager’s statements over the club’s financial situation.
After a week filled with rumours and speculations, Barça informed Xavi of the decision during a meeting today before releasing an official statement confirming the club legend’s exit.
Now, taking to Instagram, Xavi has sent a heartfelt message to the Barcelona fans following the confirmation of his exit.
|Dear Barça fans, on Sunday my time on the Barça bench will come to an end. It is never easy to leave the club of your life, but I do so with great pride after two and a half years at the helm of a dressing room that has been like a second family to me,” he wrote.
The manager went on to thank the fans for their support and love before stating that he will continue to be a Culer just like them from now on.
The 44-year-old also thanked the players and the staff he has worked with, as well as the club administration for the opportunity he received.
“I have worked with a fantastic group of players and a spectacular staff. Thanks to all of them we have been achieving the goals we set, culminating last season with a league title and a Supercup.”
“This season things have not gone the way we wanted, but we have worked hard and we have helped to raise a new generation of young footballers from La Masia who are exciting all Barcelona fans.
“Thank you very much to all of you. To the fans, the players, the staff, the club’s employees, the President, the Board of Directors, the sports directors, the media and everyone with whom I have shared a journey over the last two and a half seasons.
I wish the best to the club that I carry in my heart.”
