Xavi will accept new Barcelona term only under one condition – report

Even though Xavi declared in January his intention to depart by season’s end, Barcelona remain optimistic that he might reconsider. Within the club, there is a rising conviction that the 44-year-old is the ideal choice to guide the current squad.

This sentiment, as reported by Mundo Deportivo, is shared by the club’s leaders, including Joan Laporta, Rafa Yuste, and Deco, who are actively involved in influencing the manager’s decision.

In that regard, Laporta has already confirmed that they will wait until the end of the season to learn the coach’s decision. This indicates he believes the decision could change and is not completely set.

What is the basis of their argument?

Firstly, Laporta thinks that if his team does well in the league and the Champions League, Xavi might change his mind about leaving.

Laporta is ready to wait for him and not rush into a decision because he believes Xavi can do great things with the current players, especially the young ones he has given a chance to.

Laporta, Yuste, and Deco appreciate that Xavi has adjusted to the club’s situation, even if it meant not getting all the players he wanted. They are glad he has not caused problems for the club’s directors with his market plans.

Because of all this, Laporta wants to extend Xavi’s contract until 2025, and maybe even until 2026 if things go well. They plan to make a few signings this summer to strengthen the team, not just to make headlines.

What does Xavi want?

People who know Xavi say he is pretty certain about his decision unless something really important makes him think twice.

This means if his team wins the Champions League or the League, or at least fights hard for both titles till the end.

There might be a situation where, because of praise or hope, Xavi thinks about changing his mind, and his family would be okay with that.

But there are conditions: mainly, the club needs to have enough money to make the team stronger.

Xavi doesn’t want a repeat of last summer, where deals fell through because the club didn’t have enough money.

If there is no assurance that the club can afford to build a great team, then Xavi won’t stay, no matter how well the season goes.

For Xavi to stay, the club needs to promise they can sign important players he needs. For example, a midfielder like Martin Zubimendi or Joshua Kimmich, who he wanted last summer after Sergio Busquets left.
