Our predicted Manchester United starting line-up for tonight’s clash with Southampton at Old Trafford.

It’s a return to Premier League action for the Red Devils this evening, as well as their return to home soil after back-to-back away trips to Anfield and the Emirates. Spirited showings in both outings saw United claim a draw against Liverpool before knocking Arsenal out of the FA Cup last Sunday. Now, it’s a different calibre of opposition.

Indeed, the Saints have endured a truly torrid return to the top flight this campaign, having claimed only six points in their 20 matches played thus far. They’ve won just one game, drawn three and lost 16 – which may allow United to seal a statement, comfortable victory in front of the M16 faithful before Sunday’s meeting with Brighton and Hove Albion.

In terms of the personnel we can expect Ruben Amorim to have at his disposal, he will be forced into at least one change following Diogo Dalot’s red card last time out vs the Gunners. He has yet to miss a game this campaign, giving the boss some significant food for thought as to who will step in for the mainstay.

Elsewhere, Victor Lindelof and Jonny Evans remain sidelined, while Mason Mount and Luke Shaw are working to reach full fitness as swiftly as possible. Amad Diallo was left on the bench in North London over the weekend due to a slight injury but featured later in the night and will presumably be restored to the XI on Thursday.

Onana;

Yoro, Maguire, Martinez;

Leny Yoro was superb when he came off the bench in recent matches, and facing the rock-bottom Saints could see him given the nod to make just his third Premier League start since his summer move from Lille.

Mazraoui, Mainoo, Ugarte, Malacia;

Tyrell Malacia comes in as a like-for-like swap for the absent Dalot.

Fernandes, Amad;

Amad has proven on countless occasions to be United’s most prolific and threatening forward when at his best, so he’ll be looking to build on his scintillating form as of late.

Zirkzee.

Confidence boosts are necessary for Joshua Zirkzee after recent events; scoring the winning penalty in Sunday’s shootout will have certainly uplifted him, but open-play goals to add to his tally are imperative.
