Facundo Pellistri is well aware of the uphill battle Granada faces to stay in Spain’s top division this season.

The Manchester United youngster departed for the La Liga outfit in January in hopes of securing increased game time away from Old Trafford, having featured for just 165 minutes across nine Premier League appearances since the start of the 2023/2024 term.

He’s since played a vital role for Granada in their survival battle, starting five straight matches and totalling 409 minutes on the pitch while registering a goal and two assists.

Pellistri’s latest contribution came during last Saturday’s home clash with Real Sociedad when he notched an assist before his side fell to a deflating 3-2 defeat in the 85th minute.

Following the full-time whistle, the 22-year-old reacted (via Sport Witness): “This is football. Miracles of this style have been seen, and as long as mathematics is with us, we will fight. Attitude can never be missing. We are going to continue down this path with attitude and fighting until the end. It’s difficult, but you can dream.”

Granada remains 19th-placed in the table on 14 points after winning just two games, drawing eight and losing 17. There is a 10-point gap between them and Celta Vigo in 17th.

Pellistri faces uncertain United future

It remains to be seen where the Uruguayan’s future lies beyond his temporary spell. There is no buy option included in his terms, as per Chris Wheeler, but Granada may look to acquire him on a permanent deal in the summer window.

Erik ten Hag already has the likes of Alejandro Garnacho, Antony and Amad Diallo as depth on the right flank, hence why there was little to no room for Pellistri to cement a starting role.
