Actors Zeenat Aman and Parveen Babi were among the most popular stars in the Hindi film industry during the mid-70s and 80s. Both actresses became known for their impeccable style and glamour, leaving a lasting impression on audiences. On Thursday, Zeenat took part in a Reddit AMA, where a fan enquired whether she was ever mistaken for Parveen Babi by fans in public. Zeenat responded affirmatively and went on to share an ‘awkward’ encounter with a fan.
Zeenat Aman recalls being mistaken for Parveen Babi
A Reddit user posed the question, “Hi Zeenat Ji. As a kid, I would always get confused between yourself and Parveen Babi. Did you ever get confused in public by fans?”
Zeenat replied, “That was a very common mistake. Parveen was stunning, so I didn’t mind it either! There was one very awkward moment in Dubai when a woman went absolutely gaga over me, thinking I was Parveen, but this was AFTER her passing! It was so uncomfortable, and I was the one to have to break it to that dejected fan that her favourite actress was no more.”
During their time in the industry, Parveen Babi was often regarded as Zeenat Aman’s biggest competitor, as both had transitioned from successful modelling careers into acting. They starred alongside some of the biggest actors of the era, including Amitabh Bachchan, Dharmendra, Shashi Kapoor, and Shatrughan Sinha. Parveen achieved a historic milestone when she became the first Indian actress to appear on the cover of TIME Magazine. Her final Bollywood appearance was in the 1991 film Iraada, which featured Shatrughan Sinha and Moon Moon Sen.
Parveen Babi was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia and also suffered from diabetes and osteoarthritis in her knee. She passed away at the age of 50 due to multiple organ failure, and tragically, her body was only discovered three days after her death.
Meanwhile, Zeenat Aman is set to appear in Netflix’s The Royals, which also stars Ishaan Khatter and Bhumi Pednekar. She is also part of Bun Tikki, a film featuring Shabana Azmi and Abhay Deol.
