Zinedine Zidane would be an option discussed internally by Bayern in the event of Tuchel’s departure.

Bayern Munich coach Thomas Tuchel was asked on Sunday if he still thought he was the man for the job after his side’s 3-2 defeat to Bochum left them eight points behind Bayer Leverkusen at 12 days until the end of the championship. Perhaps a Real Madrid legend will succeed him.

According to Florian Plettenberg, Zidane is an option discussed internally by Bayern in the event of Tuchel’s departure. Bayern want the former Chelsea and Borussia Dortmund coach to continue until the end of the season, but given the sensitivity of the situation, they are taking things on a case-by-case basis.

Tuchel to Barça because of Zidane?

The Bavarians appreciate his experience and his “aura”, while Plettenberg says Zidane would be available immediately. It is not yet clear if this means that Zizou is simply unattached, or if the French coach has indicated that he would be ready to take over immediately.

This would be Zidane’s first senior position outside of Real Madrid. FC Barcelona could also closely monitor developments, with Tuchel considered an option for the Blaugrana bench next season. Enough to generate a nice game of musical chairs….
