Antonio Conte, who has been without a job since he left Tottenham Hotspur last year, is preparing for a new gig in football and it’s a return to the Serie A on the cards for the Italian manager.
Conte has been fleetingly linked with a move to Manchester United over the years but now, he is set to take over at Napoli, as reported by journalist Fabrizio Romano.
Napoli recorded a disastrous defence of their historic Serie A title this season, finishing 10th in the league just 12 months after winning it by a landslide.
Conte will be hoping to set that right immediately and he will be eyeing the transfer market to bolster his squad in typical Conte fashion.
Before his move to Napoli has even been confirmed, potential moves has already been discussed and Sofyan Amrabat, who is increasingly likely to leave United, is one of the names that has popped up.
Italian agent Gigi Iacomino has dissected the state of play and has named Amrabat as one of the players Conte would want to bring with him to Napoli.
“Conte would have proposed several names to De Laurentiis,” Iacomino is quoted as saying by Spazio Napoli, via United in Focus.
“(Conte) is would be at hunting heavy shots in defence. Conte would like at least one, if not two, of (Milan) Skriniar, Kim (Min-Jae) and (Alessandro) Buongiorno for his defensive department.”
“One of the names that Conte would like (in midfield) would in fact be Amrabat.”
Amrabat ended the season strongly at Old Trafford but it is highly unlikely that United will exercise the clause to turn his temporary stay into a permanent one.
The Moroccan international joined the club on deadline day last year but has, overall, endured a frustrating season at the club.
Amrabat will return to Fiorentina, where he has one year remaining on his contract and will be available quite cheaply.
