His arrival last summer surprised many. Oriol Romeu (32 years old) had just had a sparkling season with Girona and signed with Barça, his training club. But this season, the defensive midfielder is not playing in matches and does not seem to correspond to the “Barça style”. He himself is aware of it and asked to leave the club this winter according to The Athletic. The English media claims that the 32-year-old midfielder spoke with Deco, the club’s sporting director, in order to find an exit solution. A request refused.

Deco dismissed the prospect of Romeu leaving as Barca would not have been able to recruit a replacement. The club is still under budgetary restrictions, without the possibility of making transfers. The player could return to Girona, his former club. Always according to The Athletic, FC Barcelona also refused this possibility of departure because Romeu’s return to Girona would directly strengthen competition. In the ranking, Girona (2nd) is ahead of Barça (3rd).
