Stalwart defender Ronald Araujo faces an uncertain future at Barcelona, with club chiefs keen to tie him down to a new, long-term contract.
The Uruguayan international penned an extension in April 2022 that largely benefitted Barcelona, who are notorious for their struggles amid a precarious financial situation.
Now, just two years on, Araujo is adamant about seeing his wages increase to an amount that accurately reflects his integral role at the club. Should this not happen, it could see him push to navigate a potential exit.
A new contract has been tabled by Joan Laporta and co in hopes of meeting the 25-year-old’s requests and therefore, tying down his long-term future at Camp Nou, however, it is yet to be signed off on by Araujo. The improved terms still would not catapult him among the mix of the side’s highest earners.
Sport claims that the Blaugrana have given him a four-week ultimatum in order to speed up the process and receive clarity on his tenure at the club.
Expected to enter the market in search of a world-class Raphael Varane successor, Manchester United have told the Barcelona star’s agents that they’re prepared to make him a lucrative offer if it’s looking as though he’s ready to embark on a new venture elsewhere.
