As has already been reported today, FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta was furious after the team’s 3-3 draw against Granada last night.

The result, against the second-bottom side in La Liga, all but ended the Blaugrana’s hopes of retaining their La Liga crown as they have now fallen ten points behind leaders Real Madrid.

No change in plans with Xavi

Following the result, there was a large contingent of fans that called for Xavi’s removal as manager now itself, rather than waiting until the end of the season.

The manager has already announced he will move on once the campaign is over, but after the disappointing manner in which the team performed on Sunday, supporters wanted a change right away.

But as per Ferran Correas of SPORT, Barcelona president Laporta is sticking to his plan to keep Xavi on the bench until the end of the season.

Laporta, after the coach announced his intention to leave the bench after 30 June, accepted the formula, because Xavi was the coach.

And, for the moment, the president remains firm in his idea and is not thinking of changing coach despite the new disappointment and the fact that the team does not seem to have been freed up, as Xavi had intended after his announcement.

For now, the president continues to trust Xavi to achieve the new objectives.

What are the new objectives?

Laporta is aware that the La Liga title is a pipe dream, but he also knows that Barcelona have a very important Champions League tie against Napoli, with the obligation to overcome it and reach the quarter-finals of the continental competition.

As for La Liga, now that the title is almost impossible, Barça are obliged to finish in the top four to play in the next edition of the Champions League, with second place being an objective that would allow the team to play in the next edition of the Spanish Super Cup.
