According to transfer market specialist Fabrizio Romano on The Residency App, there is a strong possibility that Joao Cancelo will stay at Barcelona.
In fact, the journalist adds that discussions with Manchester City regarding his future are set to happen soon.
The 29-year-old, who happens to be an unassailable presence within Xavi’s first-team plans, is enjoying a fine season in Catalonia while on loan from Man City.
As of today, Barcelona are more than happy with the outcome and it is no secret that they wish for his continuity beyond his ongoing loan contract.
Things are not easy as there’s interest
It is said that Cancelo is keen on staying at Barcelona, but financial constraints might prevent the club from making a permanent deal happen, especially with interest from Arsenal and clubs in the Saudi Pro League.
Despite his desire to remain in Barcelona, the team’s financial woes could hinder negotiations for the 29-year-old.
Reports suggest that Manchester City are looking to offload Cancelo on a permanent transfer this summer. Now, there have been indications that Saudi Arabian clubs have already made initial inquiries for the defender, but nothing is concrete.

It is said that the Portuguese can veto moves elsewhere in order to push through a deal with Barcelona, a scenario that the Spanish club considers quite likely.
What about Man City?
As of today, Manchester City are more than aware of the interest the full-back has generated and they are willing to sanction a permanent sale.
As far as Barcelona are concerned, they have already initiated talks with his agent, Jorge Mendes, but things look difficult owing to financial constraints. For now, if they were to acquire the Portuguese, they must pay a hefty fee.
It is because of this that the Blaugrana are planning on another loan deal with a purchase option which might make life easy for Barcelona.
