Broadcaster of numerous football matches on its channels, Canal+ has decided to put an end to the monopoly on commentated matches. From now on, it will be possible to watch matches without comments.
The idea is not new, but for Canal+ subscribers, it is a small revolution. From this Wednesday April 24, 2024, it will be possible to watch football matches without comments from journalists and consultants working on the matches concerned. For the moment, only Premier League matches will be affected. This decision is very positively received by the public. It remains to be seen whether it will allow Canal+ to attract new subscribers.
The information was announced this Monday by The Team. The media contacted the management of the encrypted channel to find out whether or not the experience would be extended to other championships and competitions broadcast on Canal+, but those responsible did not respond. It is therefore on Wednesday that the option without comments will be available for all matches of the English championship, but tests were already carried out last weekend on certain matches.
Internet users rather enthusiastic
The first match to benefit from this brand new option will be the Mersey derby between Everton and Liverpool (9 p.m., late match of the 29th day). It will therefore be interesting for Canal+ to see if its subscribers will have massively (or not, or only slightly) chosen this “ambience” mode. For people also involved in Amazon Prime Video and or bein Sportsit is already possible to follow matches without comments.
On social networks, Internet users seemed rather enthusiastic at the idea of following the Premier League matches broadcast on Canal+, with a simple atmosphere. And one of the channel’s consultants took it for granted: “ It will silence (Jean-Luc) Arribart, finally. It’s the best thing that could have happened.“, ” No more Arribart in the ears, cool.“, ” Goodbye to Arribart’s derogatory comments, if he’s in charge, I’ll test it straight away. »
