Celtic could join Rangers in the race for Manchester United midfielder Hannibal Mejbri, according to reports from Tunisia.
The Tunisia international is currently in the United States on pre-season tour as the Reds prepare for the 2024/25 campaign.
Recent reports suggest Rangers are ‘in talks’ with United over a deal for Hannibal.
TEAMtalk claim Rangers want to sign Hannibal on loan, with the possibility of signing him permanently next summer.
Hannibal’s contract at United runs until June 2025, although the club has the option to trigger a 12-month extension.
The latest report from Tunisia will come as a blow to Rangers because it is understood that Celtic are considering a swoop for the 21-year-old midfielder, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Sevilla.
Tunisian radio station Mosaique FM talks about Celtic’s desire to sign Hannibal. Their sources believe the Scottish champions are closely monitoring the United man.
While there is no mention of a transfer fee, Celtic intend to pursue a permanent deal rather than a loan. That would be music to United’s ears if true.
