Cody Rhodes’ tenure in AEW concluded, leading to his return to WWE with significant momentum. Despite his extended absence from WWE, he returned with unresolved issues. Now, Cody has an opportunity to let R-Truth know that retribution is coming.
During his “Dashing” gimmick, mirrors were central to Cody’s persona. The mustache-sporting Rhodes enjoyed his reflection, and his entrance attire reflected this. Pro wrestling wardrobe designer Sandra created a coat with a mirror for Cody, but it didn’t last long.
R-Truth defeated Cody Rhodes in his debut with the coat, then stomped on it to destroy it. Cody has not forgotten that incident, and he booked an episode of his YouTube interview series just to bring this up.
On the latest episode of What Do You Wanna Talk About, Cody invited R-Truth onto his tour bus. Despite getting along well now, R-Truth knows retribution is coming, as Cody told him.
R-Truth shared his side of the story, mentioning Cody beat him a few times during their feud. He said that Cody straight-up told him before his WWE return that Truth will take a loss to him.
“Before he came back, he said, ‘I will not leave this business until you are looking at the lights and your toes are pointing up in the air.’ I was like, ‘Why would you do it to me?’ He said, ‘because you’ve beaten me in every character and you broke my mirror — that you set me up on.”
Cody replied that he didn’t remember winning, but vividly recalled R-Truth destroying his coat. R-Truth said Cody warned him upon his WWE return that payback was coming, but it hasn’t happened yet. On that note, Truth also claims that he was told to stomp on Cody’s coat that night, but The American Nightmare refuted that.
Cody teamed up with R-Truth on WWE RAW but didn’t strike. When Truth mentioned this, Cody smiled and said patience is a virtue. They had a pleasant conversation, but there is still an underlying grudge. They enjoyed some mules, and Truth introduced his stuffed animals to the WWE Universe. In the end, Cody seemed confident that he would make Truth look at the lights while taking a pinfall.
What’s your take on Cody Rhodes holding this grudge for so long? Do you think Cody vs. R-Truth would be a good match for the Undisputed World Champion? Share your thoughts in the comments section!
