Dan Ashworth is reportedly set to take Newcastle to arbitration to push through a move to Manchester United ahead of the summer.
The sporting director is currently on gardening leave since February after he informed Newcastle of his wishes to join Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS at Old Trafford. It has been a delayed process due to his current employers being greedy over the compensation package.
Newcastle allegedly want £20m to release Ashworth out of his contract early. A sum of money that has never been exchanged for a football director or executive at any level, hence why Ratcliffe is rightly reluctant to meeting their excessive demands.
However, enough is enough as it sounds like Ashworth is getting fed up with the situation. Many have joked that he must have the best garden in the entire UK by this stage…
The Athletic claims that Ashworth has moved to try and ‘help facilitate’ his switch to United.
It is understood that Ashworth’s decision to go to an arbitrator could work either for or against him. Both parties will be asked to put their cases forward to an independent adjudicator who will decide who is in the right and who is in the wrong.
The sooner we have Ashworth at United the better.
A delayed process puts off any plans Ashworth wants to implement at the football club.
