In a recent report from Albert Masnou in SPORT, it has been confirmed that Barcelona’s sporting director, Deco, has addressed any uncertainty regarding his future with the club.

He intends to remain in his position as head of the technical secretariat, demonstrating his commitment to President Joan Laporta.

Back in September, Deco expressed doubts about continuing in his role, particularly as he faced the harsh realities of the club’s financial difficulties.

These challenges impacted his work and left him questioning whether he could effectively contribute to the team’s success. However, he has since moved past these negative thoughts, largely due to Laporta’s efforts to reassure him about his place within the club.

What prompted the turnaround?

A significant factor in Deco’s renewed confidence stems from the team’s impressive start to the current season. Barcelona have shown remarkable form in La Liga, while also performing solidly in the Champions League.

Moreover, the hiring of Hansi Flick has proven to be a major success, allowing the team to thrive in ways that many observers did not expect and the only new signing, Dani Olmo, has also made a significant impact.

Currently, Deco feels empowered and supported in his role. Unlike during Mateo Alemany’s tenure, there is now a sense of stability and confidentiality within the department. Laporta has full trust in Deco, and in return, Deco is appreciative of this confidence.

In the background, discussions among board members and executives are taking place regarding the timing of the next presidential elections.

Initially scheduled for the summer of 2026, there is consideration to move them up to the summer of 2025, capitalizing on the team’s current success.

However, this change would require a lengthy process, taking a minimum of three months to prepare and engage the members in the voting process. Despite this ongoing dialogue, Laporta has yet to make a final decision on the elections, giving him ample time to reflect.

Deco is committed to his role and ready to support Laporta in whatever direction the club takes. He no longer feels out of place and is eager to continue contributing to Barcelona’s future.
