Erik ten Hag wants to know whether he will be keeping his role as Manchester United manager before the end of the week, according to Sky Sports.

The Dutchman is seeking clarity from the club’s hierarchy after they began a full assessment of his tenure and the 2023/2024 campaign following the FA Cup final.

Given that the transfer window opens on June 14, a decision must be set in stone by INEOS and co, otherwise, it could have serious implications on potential signings; if targets are unaware of United’s managerial situation, why would they want to commit their long-term future to a project that’s so up in the air?

Should Ten Hag remain in the dugout when the new term kicks off, it’ll mark the final year of his three-year contract – unless, of course, a new deal is offered to signify the board’s faith in him.

Sky’s update, which came on Monday afternoon, states that Ten Hag wants to know where he stands in the eyes of senior club figures ‘this week’.

Is it the calm before the storm?
