Raveena Tandon remembers facing judgement for voicing her opinions

Talking about whether she faced stereotypical judgements for adopting daughters, Raveena says, “Fortunately with people around me, I think that was not the case. In fact, I do have a saying that our moms are someone who shape, mould and inspire us to become the kind of strong women that we are. But I also do believe that behind every progressive daughter, there’s also a very progressive father. So that is something that comes equally with the kind of parental upbringing that you have. Both my parents have been the strongest pillars for me. So at my parent’s house, I never saw any kind of patriarchy being played out so to speak. Every relationship was an equal give and take you know.”

She continued, “But in the industry, there were times when I did feel that my opinion was not asked or my opinion was not taken. And if I wanted to give my opinion or be assertive it was said, ‘Oh she’s damn aggressive man you know… she has an opinion on everything’. So it’s something that used to bother me, but now I think things are better. But besides my workplace, I see this happen in many other places where the minute a woman wants to give an opinion or be assertive, she’s still called aggressive. So that change has to come in its totality which will take time.”
