FC Barcelona surely closed this 2023-2024 season with a bitter taste. Severely beaten in the quarter-final second leg of the Champions League against PSG (1-4), the Catalans had difficulty recovering from this terrible disillusionment. Leading the score in front of their supporters and already imagining themselves in the last four, the latter were caught up by reality and by a stupid mistake from Ronald Araujo which earned him a logical red. An event which changed the course of this meeting against the Parisians and which allowed the latter to steal the ticket for the semi-finals under the noses of their culés rivals.
Barcelona’s disappointments did not stop at this frustrating match. Sunday, during the Clasico against Real Madrid, Xavi’s men saw the La Liga title bid them farewell at the end of a nightmarish end to the match at the Santiago Bernabéu. A match which more generally caused a crisis for the general staff of the Catalan club. Indeed, Joan Laporta even asked for the match to be replayed even though a goal that would have been scored would not have been awarded to the Blaugrana. But now, this disastrous week confirms that Barça’s season is already over and that we must already concentrate on next year.
FC Barcelona will not be able to agree to Xavi’s terms
In this idea, the priority file to be resolved for the management of FC Barcelona is called Xavi. While his departure at the end of the season was confirmed a few weeks ago, an about-face from Xavi is increasingly possible. Yesterday, the Spanish press even got excited and claimed that the former midfielder had changed his mind. Terrific news for the Barça staff who could not imagine the future without the 44-year-old tactician at the helm of the club. However, while his retention in post is conditional on an improvement in the Catalan workforce, the latter risks facing terrible disillusionment at the next interview with his leaders.
Indeed, Relevo announces that they are not yet able to recruit several players to improve the squad. While Xavi had affirmed his need to have a right-back, a sentinel and a player capable of making a difference, these three gaps risk not being filled next season and the Barça coach will have to deal with this decision by the Catalan board , who will look for other less expensive possibilities. A situation which could cool the culé coach according to the Iberian publication which adds that his decision could be made as early as this week.
