The 49-year-old will be in the dugout for the first time as West Ham manager on Friday night for the Hammers' FA Cup third round clash away at Villa Park, but his first league game in charge comes on Tuesday night in a home match against Fulham.
It will be back to back London derbies to kickstart Potter's return to the Premier League as they follow up their Cottagers clash with another home game against Crystal Palace next Saturday before heading back up to Villa Park for a league clash the following Sunday.
Potter takes over a West Ham side currently down in 14th in the Premier League table after suffering heavy defeats in their last two matches - falling 5-0 at home against Liverpool before losing 4-1 at Manchester City in what proved to be Lopetegui's final game in charge.
The east London side presently find themselves wedged five points shy of the top half of the table and seven points clear of the relegation zone, though only the bottom sides, Leicester and Southampton, have a worse goal difference than the Hammers.
