Telangana Group-I Officers Call for Creation of Telangana Administrative Service (TAS)

Hyderabad: The leaders of the Telangana Group-I Officers’ Association have requested Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to establish the Telangana Administrative Service (TAS). They suggest that experienced officers from various departments should be included in this new administrative structure.

During a meeting held on Monday, the Association’s state president, M Chandrasekhar Goud, mentioned that a formal request will be submitted to the Chief Minister soon. The president appreciated the recent appointment of some Group-I officers as Managing Directors of a few corporations. He urged the Chief Minister to take inspiration from the state of Kerala, which has a similar administrative service, and implement TAS in Telangana.

Goud also recalled that a feasibility study for TAS had been conducted by a committee of six IAS officers shortly after Telangana’s formation. However, despite this early effort, TAS has not yet been established. He emphasized that Telangana is currently facing a shortage of IAS officers. To address this, skilled Group-I officers can be promoted to key positions, such as Additional Collectors in local bodies, and continue serving as Managing Directors for various corporations.
