‘I’m almost disliking them’: Keane brutally responds to United star’s comments with ‘huge problems’ prediction

Roy Keane has little patience left with this underperforming Manchester United squad.

It’s rare that immediately after booking a spot in the FA Cup final, the general feeling around a club is so negative. However, following last night’s disastrous second-half showing against Coventry City, even the players were left speechless.

So much so that when Rasmus Hojlund fired home the winning spot-kick of the shootout, he ran to the crowd and celebrated alone before a few of his teammates gradually made their way over. The likes of Harry Maguire, meanwhile, went over to the Coventry squad to give them their dues after the six-goal thriller.

United will take on current holders of the trophy, Manchester City, in what forms an exact repeat of last season’s final this May, with Pep Guardiola’s side having already done the double on the Old Trafford outfit in both Premier League meetings this term.

Critical Keane bemoans woeful United

When the night’s affairs were wrapped up, Keane reacted to Maguire’s post-match comments on ITV Sport with a critical – but truthful – admission.

“Maguire got interviewed after the game and said, ‘We showed great character’. I don’t see character in this group of players. I really don’t. I’m getting to the stage where I’m almost disliking them,” he admitted.

“The quality they have are clear but when they have a team where they want them and the game won, they just take the foot off the gas. I’m waiting for leadership. I’m seeing people with bad habits – the goalkeeper wasting time when you are 3-0 up – just get on with the game, flex your muscles when you’ve got the game won.

“All of a sudden, they take a step back. Show some courage. It’s as if they are frightened to go and win the game. Huge problems for Manchester United going forward.”
