Kevin Nash clarifies the reason he wasn’t at Sting‘s last match.

Sting wrestled for the last time at AEW Revolution 2023. Three years after his debut in the company, he teamed with Darby Allin to take on the Young Bucks. This was a tornado tag match for the AEW Tag Team Championships. It included interference from Sting’s sons, Ric Flair, and Ricky Steamboat before Sting picked up the win for his side.

Nash was conspicuously absent from the event. Due to his past with Sting in WCW, he seemed likely to at least be in the crowd. However, the former WWE Champion did not turn up to the event in North Carolina.

Speaking on the “Kliq THIS” podcast, Nash revealed the reason why he didn’t go to Sting’s final match. He previously addressed his absence and said he didn’t want to create a conflict of interest between WWE and AEW. Nash later clarified and said no one told him he couldn’t attend, but he didn’t want to create an awkward situation for himself or either company.

He once again addressed the event, specifying no one told him he couldn’t go. In fact, Nash said Sting actually invited him and asked if he could get involved in the show.

“For some reason, people think that Paul [Triple H] told me I couldn’t go and my thing was I’m a WWE guy. When this thing first came out, it came to fruition, I got contacted by Steve [Sting]. He was telling me what he wanted to do. Then, in that same breath, he said, ‘What can you do physicality-wise? So if anybody wants to know why Kevin Nash was at home, that’s why. He asked me what I can do physicality-wise.

“The easiest thing to do, because once you get there, then you have to tell everybody else, Steamboat and everybody else that’s going to be involved in this thing. ‘I’m not doing it. I’m not doing anything.’”

Nash Also Didn’t Watch Ric Flair’s Last Match

It wasn’t just Sting’s final bout that Nash stayed away from.

Later in that same podcast, he avoided watching Ric Flair’s last match. This was because he worried he might see Flair die in the ring, which was a fair worry at the time.

“I was at Ric Flair’s retirement match, but I didn’t go to the match because I was worried for Ric’s health and I said, man, the last thing I want to do is see something happen to one of my friends. That was the same thing with this. The last thing I want to do is be in person and watch one of my friends get hurt, so it’s just like I’ll just stay at home, and on top of all that, I didn’t have a retirement match. I just fu**ing stopped doing it.”

Nash said he didn’t go to Sting’s match because no one was going there for him. He said it was Sting’s night, and it didn’t make sense for him to go.
