Kobbie Mainoo has enjoyed a remarkable breakthrough season at Manchester United and celebrated his maiden campaign with the first team in perfect fashion last weekend when he scored the winning goal in the FA Cup final against Manchester City.

Mainoo has risen to stardom in the second half of the season especially, reminding supporters every week exactly why he is one of the first names on the teamsheet under Erik ten Hag.

In the March international fixtures earlier this year, Mainoo was originally called up to the England youth ranks but after putting in a dazzling display against Liverpool in the FA Cup, Gareth Southgate’s mind was made up and he was instead called up to the seniors.

Since then, he has kept his place with The Three Lions and is in the preliminary squad for this summer’s European Championship.

With just over a week until the tournament begins, the 19-year-old has been picked out for special recognition once more, as he has been named Manchester United’s Player of the Month for May.

It’s the second time Mainoo has won the award, having earned the prize in January as well – a month that included his stunning last-minute winner at Wolves.

In the voting, published on the official Manchester United website, it is revealed that Mainoo won by a landslide 57% of the vote, with Bruno Fernandes coming in second at 30%.

Earlier this week, it was reported that Mainoo had put contract extension talks at Old Trafford on hold as he focuses on this summer’s football with England.

The midfielder will be hoping to leave a lasting impression in England’s pre-camp and nail down a starting place in Germany.
