Lee Moriarty has earned the right to call himself the new Ring of Honor Pure Champion.
Shane Taylor Promotion’s Lee Moriarty participated in last night’s ROH: Death Before Dishonor Media Scrum. When asked how it felt to get the “you deserve it” chants after capturing the title earlier in the evening, Moriarty called it surreal but believes he earned the title on Friday night.
“It’s so surreal because you work and you work and you work, and sometimes in professional wrestling, more often than not, everything is timing. People will always say you deserve something, but you earn everything you get. I earned an opportunity at the Ring of Honor Pure Championship when I outlasted Wheeler Yuta in that Proving Grounds match.
Fans went from booing to cheering Lee Moriarty in 24 hours
“I earned this opportunity to compete tonight at this pay-per-view and become Ring of Honor Pure Champion. Deserving is something I appreciate, but I also earned it. And I will always be grateful for the fans that supported me, because last night you saw on Ring of Honor TV, I was not loved when I teamed with Anthony Ogogo against Claudio and Wheeler Yuta, they were the favorites. They were the guys that people were supporting. I was the guy they were booing.
“Coming tonight, I’m getting Taigastyle chants. I’m getting cheered; I’m getting you deserve it. And that’s special because that woke me up and heightened me up. And I think that helped carry me over that hump in overcoming someone who has pretty much had my number most of my career in Wheeler Yuta.”
